Drawing inspiration from western cyber witchcraft which uses emojis, the modern pictographic symbols as a material to cast spells, and Fulu (符箓), the rectangular Taoist charms used to interact with supernatural forces, the piece investigates how contemporary digital culture reanimates esoteric traditions through technology and spirituality. The neon light is activated in real time by social media activity on X (Twitter). This work is a multi-media installation based on Qiang’s witchcraft ritual and historical belief, highlighting the bond between an endangered culture and its transformation into new forms of existence.
